Old School

Many of my friends attended one and two room schools during their early school years.

In the late 1960's and early 1970's many of the rural schools were consolidated into larger buildings.  Some of these schools are still used for community meeting places and churches.
This school near our house our house didn't make it through last winter.  The roof gave way after we received 60" of snow.

Many have become homes.
This school is located on the ridge not to far from here.  It as an Amish school house.  I love seeing all the kids when they are outside for recess.  They all stop and wave when we drive by.

Hey those could be the schools I went to! No really mine looked a lot like those. I went to a one room school house in the Mishicot WI area back in the 60's and then they consolidated and I went to a 2 story brick school in Mishicot. I went back and saw both of the schools once some years back, the one room was someone business for a used car lot I think and the brick one had been turned into a school museum and it looked just like it had when we had stopped going there and went to a new school that had been built.

I started school in a one room school - it is now a museum - wow, what does THAT say about my age? :-)

Thanks for the tour - they are all great.

That is indeed a lot of rural schools in your area. I love seeing them too and wondering what teaching/learning took place there.

And
thanks for sharing and thanks for coming by and catching up on my latest posts! Always happy to see you there.

I'd like to get my hands on the wood from that falling in one... reclaimed old wood like that makes beautiful hardwood floors!

How interesting! Many times when I drive by old, run-down looking small houses or buildings and wonder at what their story is. They were new at some point and must have served a good purpose.

I love seeing all the old schoolhouses around here too. There is one about a mile and half away that is a house now, and I would love to have gotten that one.

I really like the idea of someone converting an old school into a home. Always curious to see inside and see how much of the original remains.
